Redbirds flock to BC Hydro’s 2010 Power Smart Forum

This year, Redbird has been working with BC Hydro to promote energy conservation in the advanced education sector. Carol, our president, was invited by BC Hydro to speak at the 2010 PowerSmart Forum on the topic of ‘Fostering Sustainable Behavioral Change’, giving the Redbird team a chance to head over to Vancouver and set up our tradeshow booth and participate in some valuable workshops about changing energy habits.

The Power Smart Forum is BC’s leading energy conservation conference, and features speakers, experts and industry leaders from across North America. This year, BC Hydro chose the theme, Building the Green Economy, with workshops and speakers on topics such as energy modeling in building design, energy conservation awareness programs for employees, and the global context of the green economy. Carol’s powerpoint presentation can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/ejMevS (Call 250-479-3806 or email [email protected] if you’d like more details.)

Redbird also had a booth at the Power Smart Tradeshow. The tradeshow showcased products, services, and technologies on the cutting-edge of the green economy, including innovative lighting and electrical distributors, HVAC (heating, ventilating, air conditioning) manufacturers, and energy-saving software developers.

For our own display we worked with Redbird’s slogan ‘top-flight social marketing,’ turning our booth into the inside of an airplane, complete with some comfy first-class seats, refreshments, and in-flight entertainment. Visitors were greeted by Amy, our production coordinator, and given a Redbird boarding pass to watch some of our best creative work about healthy people, healthy places.

To end the busy forum, Gary, our VP, attended a training workshop on Energy Management 101, to brush up on the technical details of gigawatt hours, lighting, and HVAC. Gary will be working closely with energy and sustainability managers from BCIT, SFU, Capilano, UVic, and VIU to implement energy conservation campaigns.

Thanks to BC Hydro for putting this all together. We’re glad that so many industry professionals, companies, and universities have embraced energy conservation and excited to be a part of it. Finally, a major congratulation to all the 2010 Power Smart Excellence Award winners. You can check out some of these energy leaders here:
