Meet the Redbird Team
Carol Vincent, President, Writer/Producer
Carol Vincent is an award-winning copywriter and broadcast producer. With a BA in Psychology, she began her career as managing editor for the Canadian Hospital Association, Judo Canada, the Canadian Track and Field Association, and the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association. (Yes, she jumped, 746 times.) She was creative director at two Island agencies and writer/producer at a major Vancouver advertising agency before founding Redbird Communications. Once dubbed the 'straightest creative person who ever lived', she is a stickler for the strategic underpinnings of creative campaigns, and has an exceptional track record of generating online and offline results for clients in consumer packaged goods, tourism, technology, and not-for-profit. In her free time, Carol is a runner, reader, writer, and ballroom dancer.
Gary Linford, VP, Development and Administration
Gary Linford has applied his MBA to marketing challenges in a number of sectors, most notably education and finance. He is currently our industry expert on the BC Hydro social marketing project, working with five BC post-secondary institutions to reduce energy conservation. Previously a sales and marketing manager in the banking industry, general manager of a manufacturing firm, and VP of marketing and recruitment at Canada's first private university, Gary brings creative thinking and a keen focus on business metrics to the development and defence of niche market opportunities. He is an oenophile, a talented cook, and enjoys gardening and home renovations.
Carolyn Walker, Account Manager
A combination of production expertise, proficient multi-tasking, and sunny personality lets Carolyn Walker find time and cost efficiencies on even the most challenging jobs. She is always looking for innovative ideas for Redbird's clients, and can track down any product or supplier on their behalf. Over the course of her career in marketing, Carolyn has also established and managed internal and external traffic systems for a 35-person ad agency, as well as working in a supervisory capacity for a market research firm. Between work and family hours, she is a Junior Jazzercise instructor for elementary school children.
Matt Johnson, Graphic Designer
A graduate of Pacific Design Academy, Matt Johnson gained practical experience in a photographer's studio and a sign company before turning his attention to marketing. His strong conceptual talents and design skills are complemented by a knack for photography and illustration -- a sophisticated wine label one day, a children’s colouring book the next. After work he's a drummer with a local rock band, and he recently returned from a month-long adventure in Thailand.
Amy Schumacher, Production Coordinator
Saskatchewan born and raised, Amy Schumacher is a rare blend of enthusiasm and mindful attention to detail. She provides community relations and supplier liaison for Redbird and our clients, as well as coordinating internal traffic and production systems. Amy holds a diploma in Business Administration from Camosun College, with a major in marketing and has previous experience as a consultant for an internet-based marketing company as well as top sales records at Mitsubishi and Ford dealerships. Amy is planning her upcoming wedding and writing a book in her spare time.
James Mulvey, Copywriter
After managing a local landscaping company to put himself through school, and receiving his Masters degree in English from the University of Victoria, James Mulvey studied direct mail techniques, and wrote a sales letter to Redbird that instantly got him hired. He has been trained in search engine optimization, and handles web content, social media and direct marketing for Redbird and our clients. In addition to his copywriting experience, James has been a freelance movie critic for a major online entertainment site, blogger for a real-estate site, and organic traffic writer for a technology blog. He was also short-listed for the Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal for best graduate research.
Honorary Redbirds
Redbird is a small agency with a large roster of trusted contractors: some we see so frequently that they're practially part of the family. Jim Poole is our production artist and creator of the Redbird Hall of Fame portraits. Retired fighter pilot Dave Wightman is the mastermind behind our proprietary Job Control software and our occasional IT troubleshooter. For bookkeeping needs we rely on Kathy Saunders of West Coast Bookkeeping and Tax Services, and our accounting is handled by Jas Dusanj at Mantell Dickson Blades Dusanj. Steve Hutchinson looks after our media planning and buying. And our favourite web developers in the whole world are Shane Vincent and Shane Graham, of Deck Fifty Web Design, right down the hall.
